So there are parallel worlds where Ai committed suicide too, and the reason they both (Koito and Ai) did it is because they were in love with Sawaki and he was claiming (purity) so they had to suicide before becoming adults (??)
Koito finally got saved but that end of episode was sure weird with Ai's eye which got removed and it looks like a bad ending, I'm not sure to understand and it doesn't feel complete for me... I need explanations xD

this last episode was so weird, really sad how badly this anime went downhill, it had a whole lot of potential and could've been so much more. so was this the final episode? or is there gonna be an episode 13? its kinda confusing with how they had that recap episode and stuff, hope they dont make us wait for a blu-ray or something?

Ai says "thanks for watching" at the very end so it's the final one yes

There has to be an OVA or something, this is a DITF tier ending.

I‘m really not sure what happened in this episode. If they leave it at that then the score dropped from a solid 7 to a 5 for me. 🥲 maybe I just don’t see the deeper meaning in all of this but everything just seemed super rushed. Also the Sawaki thing? I‘m just really really confused. It looks like they are aiming for a second season but I highly doubt that’ll happen.

This is just disastrous, or as @TenshiTobacco would say, an abomination.

CloverWorks got the short end of the stick right from the start with Darling in the FranXX, Neverland S2, and now this.

@NextUniverse whatever the word is now, it's indefinitely final.

@Ashhk

so is it an open ending or conclusive ending?

EDIT:

lol that is clearly not the ending, its not even considered a good open ending one its just incomplete ending

so the Ai in this shows timeline decided to be a warrior of Eros to fight Thanatos the temptation of death, lets see the ending in June

i love parallel universes or many worlds theory

Koito and Ai are both in love with their teacher eh

Original anime just isn't allowed to stick the ending anymore, I got enough enjoyment out of the series that I can't dislike it, I even have a very high view on it despite the ending, but man this could have been so much better with 2 more episodes.

I fully agree, and I can wrap around my head on that ONE Sakugabooru article that nails this point home very critically with original anime (this and Sk8). It's just not viable from both a production and money standpoint to create original anime anymore.

I don't even know I don't really understand what happened at the end because there are different Ai from different parallel universes some of them committed suicide (if I understand well) and then she gets attacked (especially her eye) she disappear from the other world and her real self is saying "thanks" while bein curl up in her bathroom, I can only describe it because I don't understand the meaning, sorry :/

Hah, remember Yakusoku no Neverland 2, where the authors just made a distant finale with a lowkey montage to finish the manga adaptation sooner. But I still didn't understand anything.

what you describe seems Evangelion type of ending lol but it seems Evangelion is more understandable since parallel universes or multiverse really is a confusing mess, it can be interpreted that on one of the many parallel universes Ai is happy and successful

Akudama drive sort of had a proper ending, at least for the main cast, though of course it left somethings open ended but from a narrative perspective it was for world building purposes and providing finality, not some cynical attempt to get a greenlight for season 2 (At least I hope not).

Well, I can be salty as a viewer, but imagine how the authors feel if they really didn't have the opportunity to bring their idea to life.

I watched it in french, which is not my language, so did i understand shit? For sure not, but im pretty sure if it was subbed in english, i would have probably still not have understood it, it was very much out there. The storyboards jesus they were good, same guy who did episode 3, that man has a great future, truly amazing.

And no, this was OBVIOUSLY NOT the planned finale, Frill is still out there, we have nothing on Neiru sister, yea guys, THIS IS NOT the official finale, will we even get one now? I dont know, but people saying this was the official end are just wrong.

Huh, what about Rika or Momoe's lesbian friend? If the 10th episode was meant as a subtle end, then this is already the level of Ikuhara, lol.

Parallel worlds eh, that certainly increases the realm of possibilities. I was suprised to see Ai hatching from the egg but with parallel worlds existence it makes sense. Finally Koito is back and I'm glad Leon's safe too but it came at the price of other Ai's eye which was brutal.

Welp this was a vague and open ending but we all know the reason for that is the production delay which led to this disarray. Thou they're including a 13th episode later so hopefully that'll give this series a proper closure.

A great anime overall, really loved all of the episodes and enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward to the 13th episode.

Stars Align was another example of a series having a full melt down in the final 2 episodes, people assumed it meant there might be more to it or an after story, it never quite panned out. The optimist in me thinks at best this gets a 40 min ova at some time that sort of solves some of the unresolved plot threads, but cynic in me knows that realistically it wont happen.

This sounds like it has nothing to do with the previous ep and the story about Acca and Ura-Acca and Frill. If that is true, this is really reaching Erased levels of bad ending. I do have to give some slack for the fact that they had huge production problems not even to mention the fact that COVID hampered production for all studios.

First episodes look good, but of course the ending will drop the ball or the egg in this case. This is the fate of many one cour orginal anime. They're usually unfit to cram in too many characters, concepts and themes.

Was an interesting watch, but so much stuff I personally didn't feel at all.

So there will be another episode, good shit.

Well that was a weird ending.
I am getting huge "children of the sea" flashbacks.
An absolutely stunning peace of media whose ending just confuses everyone. Thus hampering a bit the enjoyment in the end.
With introducing Frill so late and this weird ending it feels like there is at least one episode missing.
Or I am just too dumb to understand the message they were trying convey with the ending

WELP, another ending obliterated with closing loose gaps. Never mind, scratch that, there's a compilation finale coming out at the end of Spring.

The trauma of the Wonder Egg girls getting hit on by Frill's mercenaries, but in the case of Ai, the Egg that she cracked ISN'T her friend Koito, but her own clone (in what Acca described it as a parallel world).

No surprise that Sawaki-sensei would show up as the monster trauma set in between Ai and Koito, but the true one that needs saving is her ownself: the inherent family conflict, and the resolution of Koito. With that, she's the 3rd of 4 girls to be saved, while still having her familiar Leon intact and facing Frill's mercenary Kirara with the clone.

Not a bad ending per se, but it was structured pretty strongly like the other episodes. Looking forward to the compilation finale to wrap things up.

But man CloverWorks have been hit with triple whammies this season.

Okay that ending obviously made no sense on what they left us with. Parallel world Ai's Teacher was a douchebag, but was og Ai's teacher the same? og Ai said that they were different so the reason Koito committed suicide is still up on air...

Also at the end egg Ai gave her eye to og Ai plus og Ai wasn't forced to eat her pet summon so I'm guessing those are important points?

Everything is just so confusing...

Thank god this wasn't a real ending, because this didn't feel like an ending at all.
I was really hoping to see "To be continued" at the end of the episode.

The decision to split it like this is outright weird and can sure make a lot of unsuspecting people give up on this anime.
